Andrew Christie – A Good Looking Man

02.agoodlookingman.OddDetailLo

As I was browsing the archives for locally produced furniture for my studio, I came across the amazing works by Andrew Christie of A Good Looking Man. Creating amazing furniture out of wood (most of which is recycled), Andrew wears many hats and is a truly talented being. He is currently the anchor tenant at the Production Floor at the newly opened MYRE Building in Fremantle. For more information about his works and workshops, visit his website here. Or if you have some time on your hands, click here to read an interview with Andrew Christie on We Love Perth.

Happy Weekend

Amidst polished pianos, piles of beautiful thick paper and the recent weather heating up so much it seems to have caught everyone by surprise,  the week is at an end. With the weekend beckoning at us, there are talks of trips to the beach, early coffees on our patio and picnics to be planned as we take advantage of the pleasant temperature that still remains, at least until the intense heat of the summer invades our city. But until then, here are a few weekend links from around the globe:01.ACupOfJo.ChristmasParties

five | a sweet print of blueberries in a bowl. Speaking of blueberries, they taste amazing brownies. Especially these brownies. I tried it this morning.

And Perth locals, don’t forget about the following events happening this week:
+ Carnaval Macabre (25 October – 03 November)
+Italian Fireworks Night {sounds amazing!} (8 November)
+Festival Batizado (02 November)

Have a lovely weekend.

Yuniko Studio

01YunikoStudio

My recent fascination with all types of ceramic wares and handcrafted treasures has led me to discover the elegant pieces by Anthea Carboni of Yuniko Studio. From birds going around in circles to cute and clever cats, each piece is of pure organic beauty and utterly charming.

Anthea is heavily inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, the acceptance of that which is imperfect, with the aesthetic sometimes described as a beauty being found in the “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.” This is prominently seen in so many of her creations and is what draws such a vast following to her work.

Based in Perth, these exsquisite ceramics can be found at Nell’s Emporium & Cafe in Mosman Park or at her etsy store.

…amidst the pleasing sight of freshly cut roses, the aroma of humble pumpkin soup and the sound of laughter on the front porch on a late, balmy evening, this weekend has passed in a whirlwind of activity and we find ourselves at the beginning of a new week. So let us begin this day with some lovely calligraphy, some of it elegant and traditional, others modern and striking.

In the Office: Scandinavian Inspiration

Office02

Just this week, I have purchased a large wooden kitchen bench in the palest of shade available and have ikea-hacked it into a magnificent desk for my piano studio. With the tall black piano striking such a presence my room, I have decided to keep all things clean and simple by gathering items neutral in colour, from the most fragrant white roses to the stacks of boxes in different hues of grey. With it still looking a bit empty, my search for inspiration brings you these lovely Scandinavian rooms and offices.

First Comes Love 2013

Processed with VSCOcam with lv01 preset

On a lovely Spring morning, Susan and I had the chance to visit the First Comes Love fair, held on the beautiful grounds of St Georges College. Upon arrival, we were greeted with the most delightful goodie bag containing not only the information of all businesses who took part but also a selection of letterpressed goods too. Walking through the grand rooms of St Georges College, we were greeted with friendly faces, all eager to show us their goods and talents. From fragrant floral arrangements to elegantly styled dinner tables to a wide selection bow ties, everywhere you looked was a filled with magnificent styling.

Happy Monday

Installation

After a whirlwind of a week, only now I am able to sit down for the shortest of breaks and indulge in a quick post for you. Amidst the sounds of students picking out singular notes on the piano, too many versions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow for auditions and a to-do list so long that it’s a sight for sore eyes, here are a few things that have caught my eye this past week:

(I think a hot air balloon ride needs to go on the list of things I have to do in the next five years)

With things finally settling down, posts will hopefully be back on a daily schedule.

Happy Monday!
